Longest day challenge to support Sheffield Children's!
Today is the longest day of the year! We're set to enjoy more than 16 and a half hours of sunlight and Luke, Ethan and Gareth are determined to use the time wisely to help Sheffield Children's!
They are taking on a 100-hole golf challenge to raise money for The Children's Hospital Charity and started their challenge at 3:30am!
17-year-old Luke explained his motivation: "Sheffield Children's gave my family amazing support when my older brother Timothy died of a genetic disease.
"My Dad and his friends have raised money for the charity in the past and being Junior Captain at Abbeydale Golf Club gave me a great opportunity to do my part and take on this tough challenge with some of my friends.
"We’re looking forward to it but know it will be really really hard, but all the amazing donations will make it worth it.”
16-year-old Ethan added: “When I was 10 I watched my dad and his friends cycle from London to Paris to raise lots of money for The Children’s Hospital Charity.
"I saw the amazing difference they made but also what they had to go through to achieve their goal. When the idea of doing 100 golf holes in a day came about, I knew this was my opportunity to do some good, as my dad did before me.
"I will be playing the sport I love, but I know I will need to push myself for what will be the hardest physical and mental challenge I have ever done.
"Deep down I know the good we will be doing for the kids of Sheffield who need the best medical facilities money can buy, and that will keep me going, I’m sure. It will be worth it”
Gareth added: "I have two children and as most parents in Sheffield have we have had to visit the hospital. It’s a wonderful place with great staff and we are all very grateful and proud to have it here.
"The opportunity to be involved with this is an honour and a privilege, although I might not be saying that this afternoon on the fifth round of golf!"
