Our new ward

We did it! Thanks for all your support we have transformed our Oncology and Haematology ward by raising £2.75million. Children from babies through to 18-year olds, in South Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, Derbyshire and as far south as Northampton now have a lovely new ward, making their time in hospital that little bit easier.

Because for families home is where the patient is.

THANKS TO YOUR DONATIONS WE HAVE RAISED THE £2.75million NEEDED TO TRANSFORM THE WARD

We are so excited to say that at the end of November, patients officially moved in to the new ward. With bright, open spaces, bigger bedrooms, views over Weston Park, a dedicated adolescent room, a new parent room, a bigger play room and more, it wouldn't have been possible without your support.

There is still a little way to go for the ward to be fully completed with Artfelt touches and a brand new entrance, but we hope to bring you an update in early 2022 when the ward is officially finished.

Thank you so much for supporting us in our appeal to transform the ward, we truly are so grateful for your support!

Our Oncology and Haematology department treat children from babies through to 18-year olds, in South Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, Derbyshire and as far south as Northampton. One of twenty principle treatment centres in the UK, we care for children with cancer and leukaemia as well as patients who have other blood problems such as bleeding and inherited disorders. Around 25 bone marrow transplant patients are treated on our ward every year, staying for six to eight weeks at a time in isolation. Even patients who require routine chemotherapy can stay for up to five days before going home, while sometimes other children may need care for over a year.

The transformed ward

Here is a video of some of the first visitors to the new ward, former patients, Myla and Andrew. Myla and Andrew both spent lots of time on the ward receiving treatment and we hope their reaction will give you a warm, fuzzy feeling knowing the difference you have made for more patients like them. There is still work to do on the finishing touches from Artfelt in early 2022.
