We held our first ever charity awards event!

On Friday evening we celebrated the remarkable efforts of kind-hearted individuals, groups and businesses who supported the appeal to build four world-class new wards at Sheffield Children’s Hospital.

The charity’s first-ever awards evening, held on Friday (21st June) in Kelham Island, recognised the achievements of supporters who contributed to the region’s biggest charity-supported healthcare project. Dozens of nominations were painstakingly whittled down by our independent panel of judges, with ten winners in total.

The ‘Make it Better’ appeal raised over £10m for Sheffield Children’s Hospital, creating wards which include award-winning artwork, therapy rooms, parent relaxation and adolescent hang-it rooms as well as a special Play Tower at its heart.

Opened to patients in April 2018, each of the 72 new bed spaces have a bed alongside them for parents to sleep comfortably alongside their child. Over half of the patients in the new wards also stay in private rooms with en-suite bathrooms.

David Vernon-Edwards, Director of The Children’s Hospital Charity, said: “We are so thankful to everyone who helped to raise so much for our hospital. Without their help, the new wards wouldn’t be the special place they are today.

“It has been a real privilege to recognise just some of the incredible people involved and we could have filled the room tonight many times over. We hope to make tonight’s awards evening the first of many, to celebrate the generosity and dedication of all those who help make Sheffield Children’s Hospital the best it possibly can be.”

The Children’s Hospital Charity would like to thank the judging panel, Annabel Baker, Alan Lyons and Alex Gardner as well as the kind sponsors who helped make the awards evening a success. These include Wildfire Experience Agency, Hallam FM, SIV, 93 Design, Steel City Marketing, Northend Print and City Taxis.
