Freya's Top Tips for a Sponsored Silence

Check out Freya's Top Tips for a Sponsored Silence to help you Challenge Theo this summer!

By Freya J, aged 10

My name is Freya, and I am 10 years old. I have done two sponsored silences, one in 2022 (for 24 hours) and one in 2023 (for 48 hours).

I chose to do them because I LOVE raising money for charities and children in need of help. I love a challenge and my sponsored silence was very very fun.

My friend Theo the Bear is challenging children to take on a sponsored silence this summer to raise money for Sheffield Children’s, so I wanted to give you my top tips to help you in your fundraising for The Children’s Hospital Charity.

1. Tell everyone you know that you're doing a sponsored silence before you do it so that they know not to ask you so many questions to try and get you to talk.

2. You can communicate by having a pen and a notebook near you because it makes it easier to answer when someone has asked you something that you can't do an action to (or if you don't know how to do sign language).

3. You could concentrate on your homework or watch a fun action film, so you don't accidentally talk to someone.

Also, if you do accidentally talk then please do not worry about it (even I've spoken a couple of times) because it's not the end of the world and you're still raising money too.

Good luck and I hope that you enjoy your sponsored silence (if you want to do it).

Thanks so much for reading and I hope that I have inspired you to Challenge Theo!

If you don’t fancy doing a sponsored silence, Theo is also challenging children to run, wheel or walk 5K or take part in a litter pick! Please visit tchc.org.uk/challengetheo to find out more.
