Staying safe online
We want you to be as safe as possible when playing and streaming for #TeamTheo, so check out our top tips for staying safe online.
Top tips to staying safe online
We want our #TeamTheo supporters to be as safe as possible when hosting a live 12 or 24-hour stream. Whether you're new to this world or a seasoned pro, here are our guidelines to help you stay safe and enjoy your fundraiser.
- Don't share your details
You should never share any personal information online like your full name, address, phone number or where you go to school, as you never know who could be on the receiving end. - Choose a unique username
Don't use your actual name and don't include any personal details like your date of birth, phone number, school name, address or anything that can be used to identify you. Pick a username that's unique. You can also use an avatar for your profile picture. - Be cautious with downloads
Only download things from a legitimate publisher. Downloading cheats or mods can contain viruses that can damage your computer or device and could give hackers access to your personal data. - Remember to take breaks
Whether you're doing a 12 or 24-hour stream, it's a long time to be in front of a screen. Remember to take lots of breaks to help you re-energise and stay focused. - Be careful with your money
If you need to make a purchase as part of your stream, take your time and consider the following first:
- Don't buy items from external websites. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is.
- Keep track of what you're buying. Lots of small, inexpensive purchases can add up very quickly.
- If you aren't paying, make sure to ask permission from the person whose money it is.
- Don't accept gifts or click on offers that seem too good to be true. - Be respectful
It's important to be nice to everyone you're playing with if you're part of an online community. Remember, everyone has different skill levels when it comes to gaming, and make sure to report and block anyone who is abusive or trying to bully you. - Choose your settings
Changing your privacy settings means that only people who you choose can see when you're online, who you can play with and what games you're playing.
