Arthroscopy Stacker

In November 2019 the Charity’s Children’s Champions, a group of philanthropists comprising individuals, companies and private family trusts, funded a new arthroscopy stacker costing £28,000.

Children's Champions have funded an Arthroscopy Stacker for our Knee Department

The regional knee service at Sheffield Children’s Hospital is comprised of a team of three- Dr Nicolas Nicoloau and visiting surgeons Mr Fazal Ali and Mr Paul Haslam. Between them, they have more than 40 years combined experience at consultant level.

Our knee service at Sheffield Children's has grown by over 400% in the past five years and despite the coronavirus, referrals from across the country for our service are continuing at an unprecedented rate. Only about 60% of our patients are from Sheffield, with the rest coming from a huge geographical area as our national reputation as a centre of excellence here at Sheffield Children’s continues to be established.

Sheffield Children’s is just one of three dedicated children’s hospitals in the UK and we occupy a unique position to share expertise, research and best practice to help children and young people from across the world.

In November 2019 the Charity’s Children’s Champions, a group of philanthropists comprising individuals, companies and private family trusts, funded a new arthroscopy stacker costing £28,000.

The new equipment has a bigger screen, in 4K definition, which allows us to see in much greater resolution what is going on inside the knee. Put simply, the more a surgeon can see, the better it is for us. The stacker also has a greater range of devices to use in procedures, allowing us to do more. This is just one example of the difference charitable funding can make, going beyond the standard NHS provision.

This charity-funded advancement makes teaching and training much easier. We are a major centre for training the next generation of paediatric orthopaedic surgeons, having trained many of the top surgeons in the UK and abroad.
