Art History

September 2013 to March 2014

Art History was a selection of children's artwork on loan from the National Arts Education Archive (NAEA) at Yorkshire Sculpture Park.

The NAEA holds collections of children’s artwork spanning the last 150 years. The Archives also house student artwork, artefacts and documentation which are significant, nationally and internationally, in how the teaching and learning of art has developed over the years.

The NAEA at Yorkshire Sculpture Park is open to all and used by researchers, students, teachers as well as the public who have a general interest in finding out about the way in which teaching art has evolved. The records also display the way in which children of all ages begin to understand and record their world through image making.

The work on display at Sheffield Children’s Hospital was a small selection from different collections. All of the work was by children under the age of 16 and shows a range of mark making and picture forming. Their artwork radiated energy and the way in which children see, feel, tell stories and discover was reflected in this exhibition; which celebrated their endeavours and visual potential.
