There's Snow Stopping Concert-Goers
6 February 2012
Over a thousand concert-goers braved the weather yesterday to support us by coming along to Theo the Bear presents: Peter and the Wolf
Theo, with one of our Giggle Doctors, welcomed families from all over the region to the concert at Sheffield City Hall, our joint event with Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust to raise funds for our Arts for Health programme.
BBC Radio Sheffield’s Rony Robinson compered the event, narrating Peter and the Wolf and even dancing a Can-can with Theo.
Martin Lightowler, who conducted the Endcliffe Orchestra, handed over his baton to eager children in the ‘Mini Maestro’ section.
“It was fantastic,” said Martin. “A lot of people will have been to the City Hall for the first time today and I hope we have introduced them to a new world of music.”
David Vernon-Edwards, our charity director, said: “It was fantastic to see so many people there; thank you to everyone who came for supporting us.
“My family enjoyed it too - my daughter Cedar, who was once a patient at the hospital, joined in with ‘Mini Maestro’ to conduct the orchestra.”
Tracy Padgett, from Barnsley, won tickets to the concert on our facebook page and took along her children, Nathan, 11, and Caitlin, 15.
“The orchestra are such talented players,” said Tracy. “It was a lovely 'cultured' family afternoon and my family really enjoyed it, particularly Pirates of the Caribbean and Dr Who.”
The Arts for Health programme promotes recovery through colour, imagery, music, performance and poetry and is one of our many projects.
