Target smashed at Winter Ball

29 November 2011

Our Winter Ball raised an incredible £135,000, smashing our £70,000 target for the night so we can provide even more support for The Children’s Hospital.

Lee Westwood’s donation of a place in the 2012 Dunhill Links Golf Championship was the highlight of the Grand Auction, going for a staggering £53,000 to an anonymous telephone bidder after an exciting exchange involving bids from not just around the room but around the world.

Other prizes from our wonderful patrons included a pair of Jessica Ennis’ signed running spikes and a pillion ride with world superbike champion James Toseland, who brought girlfriend Katie Melua along to the black tie bash.

The money raised at The Winter Ball at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre on Saturday will enable us to renew the hydrotherapy pool at the Ryegate Centre's Therapy Block and fund two 3D Pain Distraction Units for Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust.

The extra £65,000 from the event will be added to the money that former England cricket captain and patron Michael Vaughan and his team raised earlier this year. Michael's Great Wall of China Trek in September raised £185,000 towards a piece of groundbreaking surgical equipment for the hospital's theatres, which, thanks to the Ball, is now fully funded.

Our director David Vernon-Edwards, said: “We have some incredibly generous supporters and we are so grateful to them all for their amazing contributions, especially when times are hard. This was our most successful Winter Ball yet and will enable us to change even more lives at The Children’s Hospital.

"We can't thank everyone enough on behalf of the patients, families and staff at our amazing hospital.”
