Sheffield Wednesday bring Christmas cheer on hospital visit

16 December 2011

Our young patients were cheered on by the Sheffield Wednesday players yesterday on their annual Christmas visit.

The full squad, along with chairman Milan Mandaric and manager Gary Megson visited the hospital to give children and their families a bedside boost, bringing gifts of cuddly toys and calendars.

Owls Chairman Milan Mandaric said: “We are delighted to be able to participate. This is a very prestigious hospital and just walking around the wards you can see why – the dedication of the staff here is unbelievable.

“Being part of the partnership with the hospital and being able to play a part in the community is something the club is very proud of.”

Captain Rob Jones added: “I have been on several visits to the hospital now and I am always touched by the strength of character and bravery the young patients show, if we can put smiles on some of their faces that is great!”

Sheffield Wednesday are great supporters of our charity, and we were delighted that the team took time out of their busy training schedule to visit.

Rebecca Staden, Senior Fundraiser, said: “It was a wonderful experience for our patients and their faces lit up! It cheered up a lot of parents and grandparents too.

“No one wants to be in hospital, especially at Christmas, but we and the fantastic staff here do everything we can all year round to make the experience as good as it can be for our young patients and their families.”
