Michael Vaughan shortlisted for charity award

9 February 2012

We're very excited that our patron Michael Vaughan has been shortlisted for ‘Celebrity Fundraiser of the Year’ at the 2012 JustGiving Awards for his support of The Children’s Hospital.

Michael raised £185,000 on his Great Wall of China Trek in September 2011. The seven-day journey saw Michael, along with wife Nichola and a team of family and friends, fly to Beijing to walk both old and restored sections of the Great Wall to raise money for specialist equipment for the hospital.

The money will enable us to provide the hospital’s theatres with a surgical navigation system, which allows surgeons to see a real-time 3D map of the area they are operating on, leading to shorter, more accurate operations and faster recovery times for the our young patients.

“I’m amazed to have been shortlisted, it’s a real honour,” said Michael.

“I’m so proud to support The Children’s Hospital Charity, it’s an incredible place full of amazing people. I’m so pleased I was able to raise the profile of the hospital as well as a huge amount of cash for it.”

Also nominated in the celebrity category at the 2012 JustGiving Awards are Bob Wilson, Richard Parks, Dawn Porter, Scott Mills, David Walliams and Lara Stone.

The winners will be announced during an evening of celebration at Shoreditch Town Hall in London on Thursday 1st March 2012.

Anne-Marie Huby, Managing Director at JustGiving, said: “The winners will be chosen by the JustGiving community and our judging panel, which is made up of some of the most inspiring and influential people in philanthropy, fundraising and technology.”

Good luck Michael!
