Michael Vaughan feels the Chinese burn on Great Wall trek

27 September 2011

Michael and his China Trek team completed their seven-day journey and have so far raised an incredible £120,000!

You can see some photos from the trek here or on our Facebook page here.

Michael, along with his wife Nichola and a team of family and friends, flew to Beijing to walk both old and restored sections of the Great Wall.

Michael says: "It was more difficult than any of us expected, plus it was hot and dry and we were all out of our comfort zones. I got pretty sore in places and toilet humour was essential among the group as some of the facilities were pretty basic!"

"It wasn't just about the wall though - we flew half way around the world to a country with a completely different culture, it was an amazing experience."

Cheryl Ridge, one of our fundraisers here at The Children's Hospital Charity, also took on the challenge. She says: "It was hard but we had such a great time doing it. The funniest moment for me was when I saw Michael trying to butter his toast with a chopstick!"

Paul Firth, Business Legal Services Partner at the Sheffield office of national law firm Irwin Mitchell and also the charity's chairman, was also on the team. Paul says: "I'm grateful for the generous support we've received so far and urge others to get behind the initiative so that the hospital can continue the amazing work it currently does treating children from all over the UK and overseas."
