Jessica Ennis sets running challenge

26 January 2012

Jessica Ennis is urging you to get your running shoes on in support of The Children’s Hospital throughout 2012.

Jessica, one of our charity patrons, said: "We’re so lucky to have a dedicated children’s hospital here in Sheffield and it’s a fantastic place.

“Running for The Children’s Hospital Charity is such a special thing to do – it’s great for body and mind, helps support the amazing work of the hospital and it’s also inspiring for the young patients here."

Jessica is pictured with 14-year-old Joshua Draycott from Owlthorpe who, thanks to The Children’s Hospital, is able to run for the Hallamshire Harriers.

Joshua was diagnosed with cerebral palsy when he was 18 months old and has had several operations and procedures at The Children’s Hospital to enable him to walk. Joshua surprised everyone when he wanted to run not just walk and at the age of ten he took part in the Great Yorkshire Run with his twin brother Samuel.

“Joshua is an inspiration to everyone that he meets - nothing defeats him,” said mum Michaela.

Everyone that signs up to run for us in 2012 will receive a free running vest and our running booklet, where Jessica will be sharing her top tips for training.

We are also one of the official charities at this year’s Sheffield Half Marathon on 27 May. Sign up for the Sheffield Half Marathon today.
